Both are legitimate metal-roofing approaches, but they serve different priorities. Neither is universally superior.

Roof geometry, access, tear-off, flashing, penetrations, deck condition, ventilation, and other project requirements can still make an exposed-fastener project expensive. Project-specific pricing is required; panel price alone is not the price of a complete roof.

Metal expands and contracts as temperatures change. Because exposed-fastener panels are attached through the panel face, system design and correct fastening are important. Thermal movement does not automatically cause leaks, but panel length, fastener placement, manufacturer details, and installation technique all matter.
An exposed-fastener roof is not necessarily a no-maintenance roof. Periodic inspection can identify fastener movement, washer deterioration, sealant issues, loose trim, panel damage, corrosion, debris accumulation, and flashing problems.

Wind performance depends on the panel profile, fastening schedule, screw type, substrate, roof zones, edge conditions, building geometry, and tested assembly. A universal wind-speed guarantee would not account for those variables.
